Dawn Oman is an accomplished artist of Yellowknives Dene and Welsh heritage, born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. A direct descendant of Chief Snuff, one of the signatories of Treaty 8, Dawn's artistic journey began in childhood, when drawing became a quiet refuge and a way to express herself.

Over the years, her passion for art evolved into a celebrated career. Dawn has exhibited her work across North America, opened her own Studio Gallery, and received numerous awards and prestigious commissions. Her artwork gained national recognition when her piece Rising Star was selected for the Royal Canadian Mint's Limited Edition 50-Cent Collector Coin in the 2003 Festival Series, commemorating the Great Northern Arts Festival.

The beauty and spirit of the North are at the heart of Dawn's work. Winter landscapes, brilliant snow-covered scenes, and the vibrant colours of the northern lights are recurring themes throughout her paintings. Known for her bold colour palette and dynamic swirling skies, Dawn captures the magic, energy, and resilience of northern life, transforming cold winter nights into luminous celebrations of colour and light.

What began as a quiet childhood pastime has blossomed into a joyful artistic voice that resonates with audiences across Canada and beyond. Reflecting on her work, Dawn says, “My work reflects my fascination with colour and the power of a joyful image to bring light to the soul whenever the spirit needs a reminder that, in beauty, there is peace.”

Through her distinctive style and uplifting imagery, Dawn Oman continues to share the wonder, warmth, and beauty of the North with the world.
